Adriana Dama is Maestra Accademica Senior
The ancient and prestigious “Accademia Nazionale dei Sartori” awarded Adriana Dama, owner of the eponymous Atelier Dama, the prestigious title of Senior Academic Master.
The Accademia Nazionale dei Sartori is the oldest Italian association in the garment industry; its origins date back to 1575 with the founding of the Antica Università dei Sartori, at the urging of Pope Gregory XIII. Even today, the Accademia Nazionale dei Sartori stands as a bridge between a past of tradition and a future of innovation. The craft of the Master Tailor has been profoundly transformed, becoming more complex and dynamic, and the Academy’s goal is to train the Masters of the future, who will have in tailoring not just a trade but a profession, in which they will combine manual skills with managerial attitudes. To do this, the Academy has created a training school, improved year by year and in step with market demands, so as to offer young people a rewarding and successful future. It also organizes events that enhance the craftsmanship and the Italian tailoring school, one of the oldest and most renowned in the world. More than 110 tailors, for men and women, representing the entire Peninsula, are enrolled in the Academy. Many of the most important names on the international tailoring scene have decided in recent years to espouse the Academy’s goal (to enhance and perpetuate Italian sartorial art in the world). The Accademia Nazionale dei Sartori wants to protect, perpetuate and teach the art of tailoring. It does so thanks to the figure of the Academician, a title that is recognized after a thorough examination of the merits acquired during one’s working life, a custodian of the tradition (knowledge, technique, style) that it wants to put at the service of the new generation, the new Masters of the future. Being an Academician is both an honor and a burden. A prestige that only a select few Master Tailors can achieve.
